Poetry Recital- Postponed

In weeks 10 and 11 we will be having a class and team 4 poetry recital. A letter will be sent home explaining more detail about the event. The poems may be from your child's poetry book or a chosen poem from home. Each child will be given the opportunity to share their poem in front of the class and parents. Some students are chosen to share their poem in front of the whole team. Please find time to practise the poem with your child over the coming weeks. Practise time will also be given during class.

When presenting to the class we are looking for

• Eye contact

• Volume

• Clarity

• Actions

• Confidence

• Most importantly- have fun!

Every week the children are given the opportunity to share in front of the class. This is a great time to develop skills when addressing a group- maintaining eye contact, speaking loudly and clearly and remembering facts or details to share.
Each term a News Roster is sent home with the rostered news day for your child as well as the specific goals we are practicing in class. I also sent home a sheet of ideas for sharing for each week. This is only a guide as any subject matter is appropriate when developing the selected skills for this term.

Term 1 and 2 Goals

We are learning to:
  • Look at the audience
  • Speak in a loud and clear voice
  • Share at least 3 pieces of information about the topic we are speaking on
Another important part of our oral language programme is developing our listening skills. News time and class discussions provide a great opportunity to develop questioning skills, recognising that a question is used to find out more information.
We talk about using question starters-
  • What
  • Where
  • When
  • Who
  • Why
  • How
News starts by reflecting on the 'news goals'. The child then greets the class and shares their news.At the end of sharing each child's news piece the child then asks the class "are there any questions or comments?" This gives a chance for questioning skills to be used to find out more information. It also gives the speaker a chance to respond appropriately.
