Week 4 Blurb

We have had a great week this week with lots of significant learning taking place. Cementing some of those important skills, particularly in reading and writing!

We have begun trying to learn some basic punctuation- . ?  !   As a class we play 'Punctuation Shoot'. Ask your child what this game is! :)

This weeks word of the week was 'They'. I am finding that many students are still saying day or vay. Please help me encourage putting their tongue between their teeth when they say the th sound.

I have also observed this week that the children need a little reminder of how to correctly write alphabet letters- including where to start and finish. I will send home a handwriting sheet which clearly shows how to form letters. If we start by focussing on the children correctly writing their name, combined with handwriting in class and constant reminders we should get there! :)

Each time I update the other pages of the blog I will simply post _____ page updated so you know when and where there is something new to view.

Please keep up the comments so I can share these with the children. They are really proud to put things on their blob and bog as they refer to it as!

Certificate Receivers

Well done to these students today!

Big Book Activity

This weeks big book was the well known tale of The Lion and the Mouse. We had so much fun today using collage to make our lions!

First we drew a lion face using pencil and we traced over the pencil. Then in groups we ripped the paper into small pieces for the mane. Finally we glued the pieces on. Finally we made a background and dyed over them.

We can't wait to show you when they're completed next week!

 

The Bug Man

We had the Bug Man come and visit us on Tuesday morning. We went with rooms 15 and 17. One student was chosen from the crowd to be dressed up as a bug! We learnt about the head, thorax and abdomen.

School Disco

The PTA a holding a school disco on the 10th June.

It will be held at the Sumner School Old Hall- Wiggin Street.

Years 1-4  From 5-6.30pm

Years 5-8 from 7-8.30

Tabloids

Tomorrow is a fun afternoon of tabloid sports played in our house teams. The children are encouraged to wear a clothing item to support their house colour- red, blue, green or yellow. Remember to also wear good shoes for running around in.

Sausage Sizzle

The PTA cooked a free sausage sizzle at school today! Yummy!!!

Evacuation Drill

We are having an evacuation drill today- walking up Egnot Heights. The children have been told it is happening and consequently are a little teary, so this is a heads up that emotions may be a little rattled tonight.

Crazy Bouncing Balls

Here are some new crazy bouncing balls. They have funny blobs to make them bounce all over the place.

We tried bouncing them to each other.

We tried rolling them...

We chased them.

It was a lot of fun.

Wohoo! Room 16 is back in business. We are so lucky to have our new veranda and shifted classrooms completed. Welcome back Room 16!
